Romeo done training -- and ADOPTED!

Happy together!

Romeo has finished his 30 days of pro training with Sam Smucker.  He seems like a whole new horse!

He was adopted by a nice local woman, Michele.  Michele went up to Sam’s numerous times to watch him work Romeo & to get pointers while riding.   It seems like a great match!

Romeo was [...]

Romeo's 3rd week in professional training

Several of us from Equihab went up to see Romeo at the trainer’s farm today.  Romeo is doing excellent.  He lets anyone clean out his feet & groom him now.   They went out on a trail ride with challenging hills, and he did awesome.   He stood quietly for tacking, untacking, waiting, and bathing.

Romeo’s [...]

Pics from Romeo in training, day 15

Despite chance of rain, volunteers went up to the trainer in Pennsylvania to see Romeo’s progress.  Romeo arrived on 7/5, so this is only the 15th day of his training.

Due to the rain, part of the session was done in the barn.  When the rain let up, he was out in a grassy paddock, learning [...]

Romeo's first full, proper hoof trim - ever!

Today two of us went to the trainer’s to watch him work with Romeo — and to see the farrier try again to trim him.    Romeo, as you may know, has had a tough time tolerating anyone handling his rear legs.

Romeo did very well.  For the first time since we’ve known him, he got [...]

Romeo’s 1st ride at the trainer’s

Today is Day 8 at the pro trainer’s:

Romeo enjoyed his first ride at the trainers.  It was brief and pleasant for him.   He did really well!

This is the first time we know of him ever being ridden.   If you’re not familiar with his progress, we’re told Romeo used to do logging work in [...]

Training follow-up: A trivial grooming task had been big deal for Romeo

Today I went up to watch Romeo being worked at the trainer’s farm.   This is day two of his stay there.   If you missed the earlier news about Romeo, he’s the mis-handled (abused?) smaller Belgian who absolutely would not let anyone handle his back end.  A vet’s strong tranquilizers didn’t help, and the efforts of [...]

Today was hoofcare day

Today the farrier came to Equihab’s farms to trim all the horses.

Here are all the horses in the program, all trimmed and photographed today…..
